Why AP?

In my opinion, I believe that journalists and professionals among other communication disciplines refer to the AP Stylebook when writing in order to keep a uniform appearance and grammar style among all written communication to the mass media. I think that using this style makes it easier for the audience to understand and makes writing more concise. If the public is able to identify that all journalists write in one format, then it appears more credible. However, if one news source does not write in the same format it appears less legitimate.

In my own personal writing for my blog, I do not employ AP Style techniques. However, when I am writing formal public relations or journalism pieces I am sure to look to my handy Stylebook for advice before submitting my work.

Reasons Why I Stayed

When I joined a sorority I was told, “The reasons that you join will not be the reasons that you stay.” I believe the same to be true about deciding to study public relations. I came to Georgia Southern University believing I wanted to earn my degree in Fashion Merchandising and spend my time working behind the scenes of the runway and styling for shoots after graduation. However, once I began my undergrad I realized I was meant for something more pragmatic and business-minded. And frankly, I switched my concentration to public relations with a minor in fashion merchandising in order to have a career that others would take seriously.

When taking my first public relations course, I felt something click. I realized I could surround myself with what I was truly passionate about while also challenging myself in my career. No matter how much I loved fashion – I had a strong desire to understand how corporations communicated with their markets and especially how they used strategy to promote their image and overall brand.
