In my opinion, I believe that journalists and professionals among other communication disciplines refer to the AP Stylebook when writing in order to keep a uniform appearance and grammar style among all written communication to the mass media. I think that using this style makes it easier for the audience to understand and makes writing more concise. If the public is able to identify that all journalists write in one format, then it appears more credible. However, if one news source does not write in the same format it appears less legitimate.
In my own personal writing for my blog, I do not employ AP Style techniques. However, when I am writing formal public relations or journalism pieces I am sure to look to my handy Stylebook for advice before submitting my work.
